DINOSAUR, COLORADO

Dinosaur, located three miles east of the Utah border in Moffat County, is a quiet and friendly community of 400 residents. Originally called "Artesia" for its sparkling deep-well water. The town was renamed Dinosaur in 1965 because of its close proximity to Dinosaur National Monument. Here, you'll drive down streets such as "Tyrannosaurus Trail" and "Brontosaurus Boulevard." The community welcomes visitors and travelers from around the world for the many spectacular sites and recreational opportunities of the area.

For those who desire to get away from it all, Dinosaur is an excellent central location, providing easy access to a variety of activities where you can experience nature in open, unrestricted settings. Herds of elk, deer and antelope are prevalent in our area and other wildlife abound. If you enjoy camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, nature walks, mountain biking, 4-wheeling, canoeing, rafting or hang gliding, then our area is for you!

Our town is on the Dinosaur Diamond, a circular driving tour of several communities in Eastern Utah and Western Colorado, featuring hands-on activities, self-guided walks and tours, and educational programs for people interested in exploring the Dinosaur Era. Situated along the world's only "Prehistoric Highway," the town is known for nearby hang gliding, Bedrock Days, the gateway to Dinosaur National Monument, and, of course, Western hospitality.

You can even observe real dinosaur bones extracted from a cliff face at the Dinosaur National Monument Quarry located near Jensen, Utah (20 miles west). Vernal, Utah (33 miles west) hosts the Dinosaur Field House of Natural History and Dinosaur Gardens.
